The Chiefs of the Blackfoot Confederacy have affirmed that the 1877 Blackfoot Treaty secures their sovereignty and jurisdiction, which are not negotiable or transferable. They stated that only individual Treaty First Nations have the authority to decide what happens on Blackfoot lands. No organization, including the Assembly of First Nations (AFN), may act or speak on their behalf without consent.
