Our History
The Declaration of Siksikaitsiitapiwa or Blackfoot Confederacy was signed in Lethbridge on the 25th of May in the year 2000. This declaration was signed with the intention to reempower the Niitsitapi. Prior to its signing, the Blackfoot Confederacy Tribes entered into Peace Treaties, inaistsyi, with both the Canadian and American governments that were often infringed despite being designed to last for the lifetime of all parties. As such, The Declaration of Siksikaitsiitapiwa represents our people’s dedication to maintaining our political, cultural and economic agency.
